This is version 2.0 of pix.loath.org, running on software written by Aneel Nazareth.

This website is built on top of Apache mod_perl and the HTML::Mason templating/dispatch engine, and uses Class::DBI to access SQLite databases. Thumbnails are generated using GD. Dates and Times are manipulated with Date::Manip. I'd like to thank the creators of all of these tools for creating wheels so good that I didn't feel compelled to reinvent them. I borrowed some ideas from Textile, but couldn't find an implementation to suit me.

Features

• Web interface for organizing galleries and pictures, and editing information about them (like captions and photographers).
• Hierarchical galleries with picture counts and update times calculated on the fly. Scales to at least 24774 pictures in 923 galleries.
• The same picture may be in multiple galleries (for highlight galleries, &c.).
• Multiple levels of user privileges, allowing users to view and edit only the galleries they have permission for.
• Token system that allows the creation of URLs that grant guests temporary view permissions.
• View counts.
• Automatic thumbnail generation. Yawn.

How can I run this software on my own web site?

What, the dependencies list didn't scare you off? If only one person needs to be able to edit the pictures on one computer, you probably really want something more like JAlbum. If that's doesn't meet your needs, take a look at Gallery. I'd probably be using it if I liked PHP more. And if I didn't think that building something like this was at least as fun as using it. If, after reading this, you're still interested in running it, send me some email about it, and I'll think about packaging it up. It wouldn't really be that much work.
